As a child we moved a few times before settling in Hervey Bay, Queensland. Prior to settling, my family lived in a lovely little town in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. The memories of friends, school and life with my Mum, Dad and little Sister still take up my thoughts from time to time.
I have a few old school friends on my Facebook from all of the schools I have attended and it is easy to forget we have all grown up now and the memories of planning our Cabbage Patch Dolls birthday parties are still very fresh. (Did anyone else do that?? … It’s ok you can giggle if you didn’t 😉 )
One friend, I can still see plain as the day, stuck under his house after he slid under to rescue his chicken whom he was convinced was stuck. I know his feet have grown but I still see him wearing the same little boots that were hanging out from under the house that day as he screamed, HELP!! We were actually gut laughing too much to help drag him out. Actually Clinty … We are STILL GUT LAUGHING about that and the day the bull chased you down the road when we were walking to the school bus stop. HELP HELP … BULL! MY SCHOOL BAG IS RED HELP HELP!
Goodness I have digressed… back to the story I wanted to tell you 🙂 .
Earlier this week I received a friend request on Facebook. At first I had no idea who the person was. After checking her profile I discovered it was an old friend from my primary school. It was only a few weeks earlier I had been thinking about her and wondered what she was doing in life.
We messaged each other that night and caught up on each others lives. I discovered she has been following this blog not realising it was me,as in her old school friend writing it. She doesn’t look the same as my memory has her but who still wears pig tails at 35 anyway? Her beautiful smile hasn’t changed though.
It was just so lovely to hear from her and makes me wonder what happened with old friends before social media made it easier to search and find them.
Have you found old school friends via Facebook or social media?
Finding my old friend again certainly has been a highlight of my week even though she found me a long time ago and didn’t realise it 🙂
