What’s In A Name?

Yipeee it’s Saturday.

I am week 2 into a 3 week stint of working full time in a position that previous to now..I knew little about. Holy shit bombs… it has been a learning curve. I hope I leave the seat I am keeping warm in reasonable condition. So far, I think I have used up 2 of my 9 lives. Not bad considering only 5 days to go.

Yesterday, a man on the phone called me Hayley. I was going to interrupt and correct him. Then I thought …oh what the heck…I could be a Hayley couldn’t I?

After I placed the phone down, I gave it some thought. I thought of how I looked and how the other Hayley’s I know looked and decided, well yeah I could be a Hayley.

Which leads me to another name I was once called… Genevieve. For six months infact. A lady I work with called me Genevieve and I quiet happily let her. You see, she called me it a couple of times at first and I let it go thinking she would realise soon enough that it wasn’t my name and correct herself. She didn’t. It took six months for her to work out it wasn’t my name. We still laugh about it…and she still calls me Genevieve.

A friend of mine told me someone she knows and sees regularly calls her Caroline, despite it not being her name. It has gone on for a few years now. She feels she cannot correct him anymore, so just plays along. She does look like a Caroline though.

Incidentally, Mr MMM calls me Tabitha. Maybe it was the name I gave him that night I met him in the lesbian bar. I dunno..I cannot clearly remember.I have never corrected him either 😉

So this had me thinking … if people look like their names, do you look like yours? If you don’t think you do..what name do you think you look like.

Did you wait to see your baby’s face before you named him? I think Lil D is definitely a Darcy and not the Samuel we first thought he maybe prior to his birth.

So, is the name for the person or the person for the name?

I have an identical twin sister, and every now and again, I get mistaken for her. Often, I can’t be bothered correcting people. I nod and smile.

There’s a mum at my boy’s school who calls me Renae – the first time I thought she had confused me with someone else, the second I didn’t correct her and now it’s been seven years, I kind of just go with it. {Also just did a little thing on my name on IG – I hated my name growing up, I dreamed of being an Abby or Emma} xx

Lol … I can imagine you as a Renee’ Rikki but much prefer you as a Rikki. I still massively dislike my name hence never mind being called anything but!

Last week I was asked if my name was Fay? Someone called me Julie the next day. Kylie must be hard to remember. I’m sure I’m not that forgettable. Or maybe I just don’t look like Ms Minogue enough. Must break out my hot pants.
